The Mathews High School varsity baseball team suffered a pair of losses this past week, falling at home to West Point last Thursday, 6-2, and getting shut out, 10-0, in a five-inning game Tuesday at Middlesex. Against West Point, Mathews batters were held to two hits—Aidan West went 1-for-3 and scored a run and Dawson Adams was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Mathews continued to struggle offensively on Tuesday, again with only two hits (Adams and West each went 1-for-2). Thomas Hubbard pitched 2 1/3 innings before leaving with an arm injury. Justin Jones finished the remaining innings; both gave up five runs each. Here, MHS senior Ethan Hudgins takes a cut at the ball in the West Point game.
