The American Red Cross Mathews community blood drive was held on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the Piankatank Ruritan Club building in Hudgins. Sixty-nine units were collected; 70 potential donors attended, with seven deferrals and eight providing double-red donations. Jacob Love was the only first-time donor. Those giving for the first time in Mathews included Ricky Barber, Denise Boone, Christine Bradley, Andy Eaton, Sherri Fillmore, Jean Howard, Barbara Jones, Melanie Johnson and Sharon Myers. Gallon pins were awarded to Tamara Hearn and Dawn Simmons (one gallon), Larhonda Cosby and Julie Jarvis (four gallons), Lorelei Wiggins (five gallons), Jim Reynolds (six gallons), Liz Scribe (seven gallons) and Kathy Hudgins (13 gallons).
