A ceremony of sorrow and rejoicing will be offered at Rosewell Plantation at 3 p.m. Sunday to consecrate the site where a Remembrance Structure will be built to recognize those who were held in bondage there from the colonial period until Emancipation.
A procession led by drumming will begin at the Rosewell Visitor Center, 5113 Old Rosewell Lane, after a prayer by Pastor Ward Warren. At the site of the structure, welcoming words will be given by Warren and information about the history of slavery at Rosewell will be offered by Pastor Katrina Brown.
Apostle Markita Brooks will bless the site according to traditional ceremony and Pastor Randy Graham will offer closing words and a prayer of rejoicing. Music will be provided by Margaret Jones, Tristan Butler, and the Woodville Rosenwald School Descendants Chorus. A drumming procession of joy will lead participants back to the Rosewell Visitor Center for a brief reception.
