The public is invited to the Blessing of the Fleet at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 5 at the old Morris-Fisher factory tall stack on the Omega Protein Property at 610 Menhaden Road, Reedville. Keynote speaker will be James C. Hudgins, president of the Virginia Waterman’s Association. Clergy taking part include Priest Joie Pierce, Kaki Swan of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, the Rev. Linwood T. Blizzard, II of Macedonia Baptist Church, and the Rev. Pilar Parnell of St. Stevens Church. A local choir will participate. Those attending are invited to bring chairs. Boats that wish to participate in the boat parade will meet at the mouth of Cockrell Creek and the Great Wicomico at 3 p.m. The event will be held, rain or shine.
