The Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc., Epsilon Eta Chapter, has again brought to the county a group of men who know how to cook. The annual Black Men Cooking was held last month at the Abingdon Ruritan Club. This is a day of camaraderie, programs giving chapter history, music, special exhibits and guest Tony Brothers NBA official and owner of Brothers’ Restaurant in Norfolk. He brought the laughter.
Sixteen years ago, Black Men Cooking made its debut. Two years of Covid interrupted the event, but this year’s gathering was the fourteenth. More than 200 tickets were sold for a full house.
Thirty chefs put on their aprons and brought an array of special dishes covering appetizers to desserts. Among the group were six first timers: Ronnie Phillips, Branden Eskridge, Charles Mansfield, William and Charles Murrell and Jermaine Holly.
