Chief Lionel Custalow and his wife, Ginger, invited members of the Middle Peninsula Bird Club to birdwatch at their winery, Mattapony Reserve, on the banks of the Mattaponi River in King William County. The group spent more than two hours on March 16 viewing birds from a large deck overlooking the river observing 29 species of birds and counting 130 individual birds.
