Big turnout for inaugural Mathews Community Gardeners’ meeting

On a cold, rainy day last Wednesday, Jan. 25, more than two dozen gardening enthusiasts attended the inaugural Mathews Community Gardeners meeting held at the Virginia Cooperative Extension office on Buckley Hall Road in Mathews.
“We are thrilled to see so many of the Mathews gardening community come together to pursue their passion for gardening,” said Rachael Morris, Extension Agent, 4-H Unit Coordinator for Mathews County VCE. “Further, we are grateful for M&M Building Supply’s generous support and donation of gardening caps for our new members.”
Participants were given an overview of the ways VCE can assist gardeners to create sustainable rural or urban landscapes, protect water resources, grow a garden, and properly manage pests and wildlife. VCE specialists, agents, and Master Gardener volunteers provide training, information, and science-based community needs. They answer questions such as: What will make this plant grow better?
