A big 400 h.p. Bombing Plane piloted by Lieut. Elmer G. Cross made a forced landing in a field on the farm of Mr. J.H. Dennis last Sunday afternoon about 3 o’clock. The plane was bound for Langley Field from Washington and made a safe landing when the engines ran hot because of a frozen pump. Lieut. Cross spent a night at Mathews and communicated with Langley Field by wire. Another plane came to his assistance Monday morning and both planes hopped off about 1 o’clock for Langley.

Little Miss Pearl Elizabeth Rilee, 22-month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rilee, has just received a gold medal as honorary mention in the Sears, Roebuck World’s Baby Contest. There were 100,000 entries, three prizes and 100 honorary mention awards.
Miss Pearl is the granddaughter of C.C. Rilee, of Gloucester, and is now making her home with her parents in San Pedro, California.
