Bethlehem UMC to hold meal packaging event Saturday

Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Bena—in conjunction with Rise Against Hunger—will hold an event Saturday contributing to the effort to alleviate world hunger.
Rise Against Hunger is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to ending hunger “by empowering communities, nourishing lives and responding to emergencies,” according to its website.
Rise relies on volunteers around the world to package, deliver, and distribute meals. Since its founding in 1998 it has provided more than 540 million meals to people in underdeveloped countries and areas of crisis. Ukraine has recently been added to the list of countries receiving assistance.
“One of the ways Rise works to achieve its mission is to stage meal packaging events to create fortified, dehydrated, shelf-stable meals that are transported to identified areas of food insecurity in the world,” said the Rev. Chuck Winner, Bethlehem’s pastor.
