Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Bena, will pack meals for Rise Against Hunger at 10 a.m. Saturday. A release said this is the fourth such event that Bethlehem has hosted for the international nonprofit organization which is dedicated to eradicating hunger.
The church said that Rise Against Hunger’s mission is “to end hunger by nourishing lives, empowering communities and responding to emergencies … We work with local leaders to harness the strengths of their communities.” The organization is headquartered in Raleigh, N.C., and has six offices around the world. Its copyrighted axiom is “It starts with a meal.”
At Bethlehem, volunteers will pack measured amounts of dry ingredients, including a dehydrated vegetable mixture, soy protein, rice, and a packet of micronutrients, into plastic bags that are weighed, sealed, and packed into boxes for shipment. When rehydrated, each bag will yield 6 meals.
