Bertie Louise West, age 86, of Hayes, died at her home on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, with her family by her side. Bertie was born on May 14, 1938 to the late Robert Wilroy and Louise Carlton Fletcher. Bertie loved going shopping, traveling, relaxing on the beach, and cooking. However, what she loved more than anything was her family. In addition to her parents, Bertie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene Clements West Sr., and her siblings, Mary Elizabeth Miller, Jasper Fletcher, Nelson Fletcher, James Fletcher, and Wilber Fletcher. Bertie is survived by her children, Debra West, Sharon Johnson (Robert), and Eugene West (Robin); grandchildren, Jonathan Rivers, James Ferrell, Daniel West, Dietrich Johnson, Courtney Johnson; sister, Fay Burris (Raymond), and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A graveside service, conducted by Pastor David Bergeron, was held at Rosewell Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Friday, May 24, 2024, at 2 p.m. A special thank-you to her aides for their loving care, Heather Horsley and Samatha Shackelford.
