A funeral for Benjamin F. Seawell Jr., 89, of Cobbs Creek, was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at Spring Hill Baptist Church, Cobbs Creek. He died Feb. 15, 2014.

Mr. Seawell retired from NASA Langley AFB after 25 years of federal service in the fire department. He also owned Seawell’s Home Improvement, and was instrumental in the formation of Langley Baptist Church in Hampton. Mr. Seawell had served on the Gloucester Board of Supervisors and was a past chairman.

He was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church, and the Gideons International.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise May Seawell.

Survivors include his daughter, Dorothy Smith; sons, Benjamin F. Seawell III and Thomas Edward Seawell; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

The service was conducted by the Rev. Dr. Charles E. McDaniel. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
