Benjamin F. Higgins passed away at home with family on September 11, 2024, at the age of 89. Ben is survived by his wife of 69 years, Nan Gilliam Higgins; children, Sharon Harris (Bobby), A. Lynn Higgins, and Susan Smith; beloved granddaughter, Becky Shaffner (Thomas), and great-granddaughter, Ardyn Shaffner.

Ben graduated from Farmville High School where he met the love of his life, Nan. They moved to Gloucester County in 1964.

Ben was a people person, never met a stranger, a volunteer fireman and rescue, member of the Gloucester Board of Supervisors, and Deacon Emeritus of Newington Baptist Church.

The highlights of his life were his children and grandchildren, bus trips, and the infamous Yak Yak Club.

A memorial service was held at Newington Baptist Church on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at 11 a.m.

Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory was in charge of arrangements.
