Beginner and intermediate potters are invited to check out the classes being offered in the New Year at the Bay School Community Arts Center in Mathews.
Potters who have advanced to the intermediate level may enjoy exploring throwing bowls and plates for Pi(e) Day, said a press release, working with forms “that share an opening move unlike that for cylinders.”
The class, taught by Elizabeth Krome, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 25 and 26. It is for ages 18 and older and costs $240.
On Sunday, Feb. 2, intermediate students can spend the afternoon, from noon to 4 p.m., learning cuerda seca surface techniques from instructor Leslie Messersmith, applying colored wax and glaze to the surface of a pot or tile to create intricate graphic designs.
Students need to supply one or two small simple pots, bowls, mugs, vases, or tiles that are wheel-thrown or hand-built out of Cone 6 white or light clay and are already bisque-fired. They should also come to class wit...
