With temperatures recently below the freezing mark, Gloucester’s Beaverdam Park Reservoir has been frozen over for several days, Park Ranger Elizabeth Keefer said in this week’s report.
There was one determined fisherman at the park on Saturday morning who broke some ice to try his luck with fishing from the floating pier, she said. Using live minnows, he caught three black crappie, one 12 inches in length.
Prior to the freezing temperatures, there were reports from people fishing from boats, catching largemouth bass and yellow perch. Earlier in January, there was an angler fishing from the floating pier who caught several small fish before reeling in a 13-inch, citation-length yellow perch.
As of Monday, the current water temperature is 36 degrees, she said.
