“The Pearl & Its People: A Celebration of Mathews,” an exhibit of art inspired by or featuring Mathews County, will open with a reception from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Art Speaks Gallery in the Bay School Community Arts Center, Main Street, Mathews. From Gwynn’s Island to New Point Comfort, the beauty and bounty of Mathews County will be on display in works created by over 25 artists, said a press release. “This is a show for the entire community,” said gallery coordinator Saraya Cheney. “Our hope is to make ‘come-heres’ remember why they did, ‘born-heres’ remember why they stayed and, for all those who visit, inspire them to come back year after year.” Stories from writers, artists and other members of the community will be shared throughout the evening.
