Be prepared before the next big one hits

As we approach the anniversary of two major hurricanes that hit our area, Hurricane Sandy and Hurricane Hazel, it is important for residents to know what to do to prepare for a storm especially if you are located in a flood zone with its being the backend of the 2024 hurricane season.
John Owens and his wife Betsy have lived in Guinea their whole lives. They both have endured some of the mildest of storms as well as the worst of storms while living in the area.
“We’ve had mild ones and the most severe in my lifetime were Hurricane Hazel back in the ’50s and Isabel 21 years ago,” said John. “They were the most severe that I have experienced.”
John said that he and his wife watch the weather to help prepare for bad weather. They also have Gloucester County’s Bee Alert system.
