Bayside Youth Ballet is putting on the ritz with its 30th anniversary Spring Gala, to be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, in the Harry M. Ward Auditorium at Mathews High School.
Alumni from across Virginia and the U.S. will be attending the performance, traveling from as far away as California and the Virgin Islands, said Debbie Diggs, owner and director of Bayside Youth Ballet. Some of them will participate as guest dancers, as well, while others who have established their own dance studios will bring their dancers to join the 15 current members of the Bayside company.
The studios that will be joining Bayside are Etudes Ballet, Mathews Dance Studio, Woodside High School, and Diggs School of Dance.
Diggs said the collaborative performance will feature many of the alums’ favorite dance numbers from the past 30 years, including “Scorpion,” an original dance created for the school; “Passionata,” a Latin-flavored dance that was created around some favorite Bob Fosse pieces; Scott Joplin’s...
