The Bay School Community Arts Center in Mathews announced recently that it has been awarded a $14,400 General Operating Support Grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts.
“This state funding acknowledges our impactful contributions to Virginia and its citizens,” said a press release from the center’s marketing coordinator, Tamera Myer-Mams.
The Virginia Commission for the Arts is the state agency charged with enhancing the commonwealth’s economy and arts ecosystem by investing millions of dollars in grant funds annually in communities across Virginia, said the release. It is supported by the General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts. For the 2024 grant cycle, the commission awarded 656 grants totaling more than $5 million in arts investments.
The Bay School Community Arts Center was founded in 1997 and offers over 100 tuition-based classes and summer art camps each year for adults and children in a variety of visual arts media and with over 30 instructors.
