Battle of Hook markers to be unveiled at Abingdon Elementary

The American Society of Le Souvenir Français, Inc., will hold a dedication ceremony on Oct. 18 at 5 p.m. for the unveiling of two interpretive markers at Abingdon Elementary School which stands of the site of the Battle of the Hook.
The markers are placed with the cooperation of Gloucester County, the National Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route Association, Inc., and the National Park Service.
The Battle of the Hook took place in 1781 and saw Duc de Lauzun’s Legion and Lieutenant Colonel John Mercer’s Select Battalion of Grenadiers defeat Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton’s British Legion and Royal Welch Fusiliers. These interpretive markers are the latest addition to a series of markers, sculptures, and memorials interpreting Yorktown’s battlefield and its surroundings.
The dedication is at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Abingdon Elementary School. All are welcome to attend.
