Bakers invited to compete in May Faire Pound Cake contest

Pound cake cooks are invited to try their luck in the 2022 May Faire Pound Cake contest, to be held Saturday, May 7, as part of the festival being held in Mathews County. The top prize is $150 cash, said contest chair Nancy Twigg.
All a cook has to do to enter is to bake the cake, and to enter it at 9 o’clock that morning in the Mathews County Administration Building located on the court green. There is no charge to enter.
May Faire is an annual heritage festival put on by the Mathews Historical Museum. It began in 2017 and continued the next two years, before enduring a two-year interruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A pound cake contest was part of those first three festivals.
If the bakers choose, they may donate their cakes to the May Faire festival. These will be walked across the court green in a Cake Parade to take place around noon, then sold from the May Faire information tent to benefit the museum.
