AVFR to be conducting joint exercises on the water

Members of the Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, along with other first responders, will be conducting exercises on the York River near Gloucester Point beginning at 7 p.m. Friday.
According to AVFR spokesperson Robert Parlett, there will be about 50 people out on the water doing various training exercises, including representatives from Camp Peary, Virginia Marine Resources Commission, James City and York counties and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.
Parlett said the training is part of the area’s involvement in the Port Authority of Virginia. He said the point of the exercise is to get all the entities familiar with working together on the river.
