An opening reception and awards ceremony for the annual Art Speaks Juried Exhibition will be held from 5-7 p.m. Saturday in the Art Speaks Gallery at the Bay School Community Arts Center, 279 Main Street, Mathews.
The exhibit showcases the work of 66 artists living and working in Virginia. Both 2D and 3D media are represented in the show, and $6,350 in prize money will be awarded.
This year’s juror and judge is Diego Sanchez, a Colombia, South America native who holds both a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Fine Arts from the painting and printmaking department at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Sanchez’s artwork has been exhibited across Virginia and internationally, with pieces included in many private and public collections, including those of universities and corporations.
He is the head of the art department at St. Catherine’s School and serves on the board of the Visual Arts Center of Richmond.
The exhibition will be available for viewing and purchase through May 26.
