Applications will be accepted through Friday, Sept. 6, for the state program that provides Virginia residents free equipment for assembling new beehives.
Recipients are selected by lot at random from qualified applicants, according to a press release from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Applicants must be a Virginia resident, aged 18 and older, to be eligible to receive beehive units. Entities such as businesses, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies are not eligible, the release said.
Recipients of beehive units must assemble the equipment and occupy it with a colony of honey bees within one year of receiving the equipment.
