Antioch churches to highlight history this weekend

Antioch Baptist Church in Gloucester’s Coke area, and Antioch Baptist Church in Saluda, will both be in the historical spotlight this weekend.

Gloucester’s Antioch Baptist Church, built in 1922, is now the site of services held at 12:30 p.m. Saturdays by its steward, The Truth in the Spirit. The church is located at 4604 Cedar Bush Road.
Oral histories are being collected in cooperation with the Fairfield Foundation by oral historian Dr. Jessica Taylor, at the church during a one-hour time slot between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Friday, and between 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Especially sought are recollections of Antioch and the Piney Swamp community, both of which evolved from nearly Fairfield plantation.
