ANTHONY LOUIS PATNODE

Anthony Louis Patnode of Hayes, Virginia, was born in Newport News, Virginia, on January 22, 1988. Surrounded by his family, he peacefully departed this life on July 20, 2024, at the age of 36, following a courageous battle with brain cancer. Anthony was kind, generous, humble, and loved helping others. He worked as an insurance adjustor until his health failed. He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed fishing, video games, and watching classic movies, and had a lively sense of humor. He also enjoyed discussing current events with his grandfather. He was preceded in death by his father, Christopher Patnode. He is survived by a son, Cooper Fritz of Chester; his mother, Lynne Bunner (Greg); his brother, Reid of Ivor; his grandmother, Claudette Wiseman of Ohio; his grandparents, Louis and Carol Patnode of Hayes, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is also survived by his faithful canine companion, Bella. We are especially thankful to Michael Hall, Anthony’s lifelong friend, who drove Anthony to appointments and spent time with him throughout his illness, and to Nona Merrill, who helped lead young adults to Christ through her ministry in the youth group at Bellamy United Methodist Church. We are deeply appreciative of Dr. Haggerty and his staff, to the oncology team at Virginia Commonwealth University, and to the radiology department at the University of Maryland Medical Center, all of whom provided extraordinary medical care and compassion throughout Anthony’s illness. We end this chapter of Anthony’s story with gratitude to the Lord for sending him into our lives. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends. A funeral service will be held at Saint James On-The-Glebe Anglican Church, 6124 Abingdon Glebe Lane, Gloucester, on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 11 a.m. If desired, memorial gifts may be made to the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, P.O. Box 385, Gloucester, Va. 23061.
