Mr. Anthony L. “Tony” Sparacia, 62, died suddenly in his Gloucester home on Tuesday, June 6, 2023.
He was born in Hampton, graduated from Denbigh High School, and lived with his wife of 40 years in Gloucester. Tony was a Master Shipbuilder with 42 years of service at Newport News Shipbuilding, and retired in 2022.
Tony was a father to more than just his only son. He never met a person he wouldn’t help. He always knew his “right way” to handle a problem, and had no problem sharing it with the people he cared for. He was a jack-of-all-trades and a master of many, and shared that knowledge freely with anyone willing to learn. Tony was actively involved with the Church of St. Therese, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and coached many different sports teams.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Sparacia; his son, Michael Sparacia and fiancée Meaghan; his stepfather, Frank Martin; his brother, Joe Sparacia, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Finney Martin, and brother, Jimmy Jenkins.
A visitation was held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14 at the Church of St. Therese in Gloucester, with a funeral immediately following at 11 o’clock. A reception was held at the church prior to a private burial.
The family requests that any expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Knights of Columbus Council 9428 of Gloucester.
Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory was in charge of arrangements.
