ANNA RUTH WATERMANN

A funeral and burial for Anna Ruth Watermann of Coeburn, was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, in Clinch River Baptist Association Cemetery. She died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012.

Mrs. Watermann was a former resident of Gloucester County, and taught at Thomas C. Walker High School for 30 years. She served as assistant principal, instructor and founded the first yearbook at the school.

She received a bachelor of arts degree from Virginia Union University, Richmond, and did graduate studies at Howard University, Washington, D.C. She received a master’s degree from New York University.

In 1968, Mrs. Watermann was nominated Outstanding Personality of the South; served as Jury Commissioner, co-chair of Gloucester Chapter of the American Red Cross Fund Drive, secretary of the Bicentennial Historical Committee, and served for 21 years as treasurer of the National Association of University Women (Gloucester chapter).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Alexander and Emma Turner; her husband, William H. Watermann; a sister, and six brothers.

Survivors include two sisters.
