ANN GEORGE

Ann George (née Shinault), 87, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully at home on January 14, 2025. She was born and raised in Mathews County, Virginia, the beloved daughter of Crew and Ann Shinault.

Affectionately known as “Sugie” by friends and family, Ann had a sweet and gentle nature. In her younger years, she was crowned Miss Mathews in 1957, a testament to her grace and beauty. Known for her immaculate home, her family often joked about her spotless house, but they also knew that it was a reflection of her loving and caring nature. She was a thoughtful and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald George. She is survived by her son, Michael George; daughters, Linda G. Hertzler and her husband Joe, and Becky Piercy and her husband Scott; grandchildren, Antonia Hertzler, Charles Piercy, and Henry Piercy; and great-grandson, C.J. Hertzler. She is survived by her brothers, Bud Shinault and wife Sylvia, W.C. Shinault, and Lisa Callis.

A funeral service conducted by the Rev. Gary Barker was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Christ Church, Kingston Episcopal Parish, 320 Williams Wharf Road, Mathews, Va. 23109. Interment followed in the Christ Church Kingston Parish Cemetery.

Services were under the direction of Hogg Funeral Home.
