As a member of the Mathews County School Board, I want to let this community know about the graduating class of 2023; about the exceptional group of young people for whom this community should be proud. For those who question this county’s public education system, the graduation ceremony should dispel concerns about the education that our future leaders receive.
The week began with 80 percent of the students attending the Baccalaureate Services held at Mathews Baptist Church. This is an increase over recent years, which says to me that faith is important to these students. Thank you to both the Ministerial Association and the Praise Team at Mathews Baptist for an inspiring service. A special thanks to the Rev. Dr. Marcus Stallworth from Mathews Chapel Church who spoke at this service—uplifting, inspirational and, most importantly, full of hope.
