The Altius String Quartet will perform at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, in the Arts at Abingdon concert series at Abingdon Episcopal Church on Route 17 in White Marsh. Admission is free, with a free-will offering accepted. The Altius Quartet is an ensemble determined to further the art of chamber music through performance, education, and outreach, said a press release. Its name is derived from the Olympic motto: Citius, Altius, Fortius (Latin for Faster, Higher, Stronger). Altius has been awarded prizes at international competitions and has released two albums: Dress Code in the spring 2017 and Dmitri Shostakovich’s String Quartets Nos. 7, 8, and 9 more recently. The quartet currently is in partnership with the Aspen Music Festival and School for annual educational outreach residencies, and, since 2016, has worked alongside Denver Friends of Chamber Music and Arts Longmont performing outreach events for school children. Seating is limited so early arrival is advised. For more info...
