A special blood drive was held on Nov. 15 at Providence Baptist Church, Hayes, in honor of this young man, Allen Speer, above, with this drive held on the two-year (plus one day) anniversary of his diagnosis with congenital heart disease. “His drive collected 23 units of blood, impacting up to 69 lives,” said his mom, Jennifer Speer. “Even though he enjoyed using the scanner at registration, he said his favorite part was checking on donors and caring for them.” “Allen the Lionhearted’s” next drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Jan. 31, 2025 in the gym of Newington Baptist Church, Gloucester. That drive is being held two years (and one day) after surgery to repair his aorta.
