Alice Temple McGee died on July 2, 2023 at her home in Gloucester Point, Virginia. Alice was born on September 27, 1924 in Portsmouth, Virginia. She was raised in the Fox Hall neighborhood in Norfolk, Virginia, with her three brothers, Billy, James Earl, and Dick.
She married the love of her life, Robert Phillip McGee, on Sept 26, 1942, shortly after graduating from Norview High School in Norfolk. Alice and Phil spent 76 years together until his death in 2018.
While Phil was serving his country overseas during World War II, Alice worked in New York City for the Pennsylvania Railroad. After Phil returned home, they spent time in Blacksburg, Va., Florida, and Norfolk where the first of their six children was born in 1950 before moving to Northern Virginia in the early 1950s and finally settling in Vienna, Va., in 1957 where the last of the children was born in 1960. She resided in Vienna until 1985 when Phil and Alice retired to their dream home, “The Bluff,” on the York River in Gloucester Point.
Alice is survived by her children, Robert Temple McGee, Jeffrey Lee McGee. Patricia Wheeler, Michael Scott McGee, Jon Christopher McGee, Janet Elizabeth McGee; her brother, Richard Temple, as well as seven grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Alice was a devoted member of Bethany United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 14, from 6:30-8 p.m. at Andrews Funeral Home and Crematory. A funeral service will be held at Bethany United Methodist Church, 1860 Hayes Road, Gloucester Point, on Saturday, July 15 at 10 a.m. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
