Aileen Welsh Hogge, age 83, of Hayes, passed away on Feb. 9, 2012 due to complications of a stroke.
She was born in Wilmington, N.C., on April 15, 1928. She attended school in North Carolina and Newport News (graduating from Warwick High School), and received her teaching certificate from Peace College in elementary education. She taught first grade for 10 years in Newport News at Parkview Elementary and loved being a teacher!
She spent the years following teaching as a homemaker and being a wife and a great mom. Her loves included crafts, quilting, cross stitch, collecting children’s glass dishes, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. There was never any mountain she could not climb in life and she lived her faith daily!
During the last six months, due to dementia, she lived at The Gloucester House and developed many friendships there as a resident. The staff loved her and her quick unpredictable wit!
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, William H. Hogge; daughter, Rebecca H. Powell and husband Mike; son, John H. Hogge and wife Elise; grandchildren, Sarah Rebecca Powell, Matthew James Powell, Lauren Elise Hogge and Marie Elise Hogge.
The family received friends Sunday afternoon from 2-3:30 at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Ray Goude Jr. were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment followed in Rosewell Memorial Garden.
