African American Read-In

Mathews Elementary School held its annual African American Read-In on Friday, inviting members of the community to the school to spend the day reading books by African American authors to the students. Among those participating were, from left, Tanya Clark, Wilnet Willis, Crystal Coleman, Jackie Smith, Cynthia Hayes, Constance Clayborne, Monica Forrest, Sheila Crowley, Dr. David Daniel, Denise Cooke, Kent Willis, Joan Dandridge, Tracy Elliott, Pam Gardner, Danielle Robinson, Kat Larkin, Peggy Newsome, Lorraine Forrest, Alyssa Carter, Mary Jackson, Jessica Christiansen, Dawn Robinson and, kneeling in front, Darius Dixon and Edith Turner. The event was held as part of the school’s observance of Black History Month.
