The Elementary School in Mathews County celebrated Black History Month on Friday by taking part in the National African American Read-In. This event is sponsored by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English and endorsed by the International Literacy Association. The goal of this event has been to document the celebration of African American literacy, a traditional part of our Black History Month activities. This year, the school had 27 readers and provided readers for all classes pre-K through fourth grade, as well as four fifth-grade classes at Thomas Hunter Middle School.
