The Northern Neck-Middle Peninsula Chapter of the Virginia Aeronautical Historical Society will hold its monthly buffet lunch meeting next Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Pilot House Restaurant, which is located on Route 3 in Topping next to Hummel Field.
A meet and greet will start at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch at noon and the program at 12:30. This month’s presentation is on the U.S. Air Force’s development of the “ALL” (Airborne Laser Laboratory) and will include inside information, pictures and videos.
The laser weapons program was conceived of in the 1960s and developed in the ’70s to early ’80s at the USAF Weapons Lab in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Weapons Lab is one part of Air Force research now called the Air Force Research Laboratory.
