Abingdon Episcopal Church, White Marsh, has marked the season of Advent with a large outdoor wreath in front of the historic church. The wreath was laid out by Shan Rose of Green Art in Gloucester and during the week displays four large candles. On Sundays, at 4 p.m., the congregation gathers to light another candle. Cressets (in foreground) made by the Village Blacksmith in Gloucester are used for the fires. Worshippers stay in their cars and participate in the service via an FM broadcast. Each week a member of the parish shares how the light of Christ has come into their life. On Christmas Eve, all cressets will be lit as the church celebrates the birth of Christ, at 4 and 10:30 p.m. worship services in the parking lot.
