The Mathews County School Board received criticism over plans not to replace the Mathews Elementary School assistant principal, but rather to use the middle school assistant principal to cover both schools.
In the end, the school board voted to approve the change, along with other personnel matters, following a closed session at the conclusion of Tuesday’s meeting, which was held in the Harry M. Ward Auditorium at Mathews High School.
Summer grads
The meeting was held in the MHS auditorium to accommodate the MHS summer commencement ceremony. Eight MHS students—Sarah Annabeth Abbitt, Zayle Journae-Tristin Darby, Sarah Mackenzie Huff, Victoria Faith McKinney, Blake Edward Meador, Clayton Louis Owens, Emmillie Alicyn Smith and Justin Neil Smith—earned their diplomas. A large group of family and friends gathered in the auditorium for the celebration.
