While the team results for the Mathews High School track program at last week’s regionals were not stellar, there were some very impressive individual results, including a first-place finish for Justin Adams in the 3200 meter run.
The MHS girls placed 14th out of 16 teams, while the boys came in 12th out of 19 teams in the 1A East Region championships, which were held last Thursday at Charles City.
Adams won the 3200 meter race in 10:30.62, his second fastest time of the season. By winning this race, he continued his season-long undefeated streak. This Saturday, at states, we will see if he can keep his streak alive. He is currently ranked third in the state among Group 1A runners. Sam Jasinski ran a personal best 800 meter run in 2:09.87, earning fifth place, good enough to qualify for states.
Both the girls’ and boys’ 4x800 teams also made it to states. The boys’ team, consisting of Tyler Zabel, Nick Mann, Sam Moore and Jasinski, finished fifth in 9:27.34. The...
