Abstract artist featured in First Friday reception

Arts on Main will open an exhibition of works by Dathan Kane at its February First Friday event, to be held from 6-8 p.m. this Friday at the gallery on Gloucester’s Main Street. It is free and open to the public. A beer and wine cash bar and panini sandwiches will be available for purchase.
Kane, a painter and muralist, works with bold, abstract, black and white organic shapes which reflect things he sees on a daily basis, said a press release. Hard lines and edges question the absence of color and capture the viewer’s attention.
A native of Hampton, Kane received his Bachelor of Fine Art degree from Virginia State University in 2014, where he focused primarily on illustration and painting. His work has been exhibited at numerous galleries in Hampton Roads. He has also painted murals across the city of Hampton and had his first international exhibition in 2017 at the Sichuan Contemporary Gallery in China.
