The Abingdon Ruritan Club welcomed Charles Somervell III to its July 8 meeting, introducing members to the 2024 Gloucester High School graduate, recipient of this year’s scholarship, as well as winner of the club’s essay contest. Somervell will receive the Abingdon Ruritan Club’s four-year $4,000 scholarship. He plans to attend Washington and Lee University to study mathematics. Scholarship Committee chair Don Sandridge, along with other members of the committee, presented the check to Somervell, and the student read his winning essay highlighting his community involvement and student activities.
