Abingdon firefighters respond to report of smoke at Achilles Elementary School

Classes were briefly disrupted Tuesday morning at Achilles Elementary School, as the building was cleared due to smoke.
Abingdon Volunteer Fire & Rescue Squad responded to reports of smoke emanating from a sink in an Achilles Elementary School classroom at approximately 11 o’clock, according to Gloucester County Public Schools superintendent Dr. Anthony Vladu.
Vladu informed parents, staff and the community about half an hour later that the building had been cleared by AVFRS and students and staff could safely reenter the school building. All students had been accounted for and returned to their classrooms.
