Aberdeen Creek Living Shoreline Project receives $1.7M

The Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission was awarded approximately $1.7 million for the Aberdeen Creek Living Shoreline Project in Gloucester, part of a total of $53.9 million in awarded projects from the Virginia Community Flood Preparedness Fund, the state Department of Conservation and Recreation announced last week.
MPPDC deputy director Curt Smith said that the agency was very pleased with the news and is currently waiting for the contract to arrive.
According to a press release, these newly funded projects will expand flood prevention and protection projects which include mitigation, capacity building, planning and studies throughout Virginia.
All of these grants, including the Aberdeen Creek grant, require matching funds. The grant Gloucester received from the Virginia Port Authority Waterway Maintenance Fund for the Aberdeen Creek project was used for the match. This proposal was submitted in November of last year.
