Members of Mathews Volunteer Fire Department Station 2, Bohannon, spent Friday evening preparing for a visit by Santa Claus to the children of Mathews by turning the engine bay of their station into Santa’s village. On Saturday, Santa rolled up in Fire Engine 2, driven by Fire Captain Donnie Wayne Owens, to a crowd of families awaiting his arrival. The four-hour visit by Santa treated 60 families to homemade hot chocolate and hot apple cider, as well as cookies and candy canes. Kids queued to sit on Santa’s lap to convince him of their good behavior over the past year and to compel him to fulfill their Christmas wishes. Meanwhile, families enjoyed food and drinks at the tables set up in the spacious bay with Christmas music playing in the background. After lots of photos were taken, lots of treats were eaten, and lots of Christmas wishes revealed, it was time for Santa to return to the North Pole. Santa hoisted himself back up into Fire Engine 2 and waved goodbye to the kids of Mathews...
