A special Mathews Farmers’ Market planned for Saturday

The Mathews Farmers’ Market plans a number of special activities from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday in celebration of its place in the Mathews community, a press release stated.
Gov. Terry McAuliffe has designated the week of Aug. 6-12 as Virginia Farmers’ Market Week in recognition of the vital role the markets play in communities throughout the commonwealth.
The Mathews celebration also recognizes the work and support of the vendors, who make it possible for residents of the community, as well as visitors, to enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods and handmade crafts, said the release.
The local band Honeywind Bluegrass Boys will play throughout the day. In addition, to encourage visitors to purchase from market vendors, market sponsor Mathews Main Street will hold a drawing for three gift certificates. The certificates can be used to purchase from any vendor at themarket, which is held on the court green, until it closes for the season on Oct. 28.
