New and sustainable funding has boosted Virginia’s transportation program to $17.6 billion for the next six years, Gov. Bob McDonnell announced June 19. A number of Middle Peninsula road and bridge improvement projects are on the list, with some fully funded and others partially funded at this point, according to Virginia Department of Transportation spokesman Kelly Hannon.

The Six-Year Improvement Program allocates construction money for highway, road and bridge projects. The plan also includes funds for rail, transit, bicycle, pedestrian and other transportation improvements across the state.

More than $10 million in projects in Gloucester is in the plan, which was recently adopted by the Commonwealth Transportation Board, Hannon said, along with $1.5 million in improvements in Mathews, $1.3 million in Middlesex and $2 million for King and Queen County.
