A long-overdue celebration

After a lengthy delay due to the pandemic, the state champion Mathews High School boys’ basketball team finally got a chance to celebrate its incredible season on Sunday evening with a banquet at the Piankatank Ruritan Club building. A highlight of the evening for the boys was receiving their championship rings, which had been provided by Mathews dentist Dr. Ben Lennon. Among the boys opening up their ring boxes are, from left, Tae Leggette, Landon Green, Jackson Putt, Damien Walters and Brandon Gandee. For more on the celebration, see story in the sports section.
