Mathews County Public Schools Food Services employees got a double helping of praise at the school board’s Jan. 17 meeting, as they were recognized for their service with certificates of appreciation, and a day-off pass. School board vice chairman John Priest thanked them for their exemplary work, especially since March 2020 as they adjusted to serving meals in the community because of the Covid pandemic. School board member Linda Hodges thanked Food Services Director Nelda Gibbs and her staff for the “untold number of meals” they have served over the years, adding that “I would hold you up to any school in the country” for the quality of the meals served. “I’m so grateful for every one of them,” Gibbs said of her staff, adding that they were going from the meeting to have dinner. “Somebody’s going to wait on us now,” she quipped.
