Henry Vaughn of Gloucester stumbled upon this English newspaper from Jan. 9, 1944 praising the success of Russian forces during World War II as they moved through what is now Ukraine. The paper belonged to Vaughn’s father, Henry A. Vaughn, who served in Europe, Africa and in the Pacific theater during the war. His father had stored the paper along with other items from the period and it was untouched for decades after his passing in 1966. He said he found very interesting the irony of the paper compared to the headlines of today where the United States and many European countries are damning Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine.
